Upcoming Free Lecture - April 2012

Ride for Rehab - National campaign conclusion in St. John’s NL on Sept 1, 2011

Alex Holton and Vanessa Parlette cycled 7,260 km for the FIRST ride across Canada for the Cardiac Health Foundation of Canada. The intent of the RIDE FOR REHAB campaign was to promote public awareness about cardiac rehabilitation and to advocate continued diligence to prevent risk factors for cardiovascular disease and to raise funds for education and graduate scholarships. Graduate scholarship presentations of five $3,000 scholarships will be made at the CACR conference in Vancouver, BC October 2011.Total amount raised for Ride For Rehab campaign was $33,292.36 to be utilized to further advocate cardiac rehab across the country.

Ride for Rehab

This summer Vanessa and I plan to ride across Canada in benefit of the Cardiac Health Foundation of Canada. Through this ride we intend to promote awareness and funding for cardiac rehabilitation centres by encouraging active lifestyles that help prevent risk factors for cardiovascular disease. We begin our journey on May 29th departing from Vancouver and will finish on August 28th in St John's after cycling 8000km.

2010 Cardiac Health Foundation Golf Tournament

This year's tournament was a terrific success once again. The day was a fun day for all golfers. The weather couldn't have been better. The temperature was very comfortable and although is was a bit cloudy, the rain held off until the very last hole and even then is was just a sprinkle.

Lecture Evening and Body Worlds Exhibit a Resounding Success!!

Over 150 enjoyed the private showing of the Body Worlds & The Story of the Heart Exhibit and Dr. Jack Goodman’s educational lecture on “Exercise and the Heart - How Much is TOO Much ?” at the Ontario Science on October 16th, 2009. Cardiac Classic Golf Tournament 2009

The Cardiac Health Foundation of Canada held its 9th annual Classic Golf Tournament on Wednesday August 5th at the Cardinal Golf Club in Newmarket. It was a great day with terrific weather, both sunny skies and comfortable temperatures. Cardiac Ski Day

This year our Cardiac Ski Day was held at Devil's Glen Country Club, on Friday February 20th 2009, and it was a great success. The day was sunny and bright and the hills were in great shape. After an excellent breakfast donated by Tim Hortons, Gordon Foods, Tofutti , Metro of Collingwood, Central Epicure, Kristapsons, and All Seas Fisheries our participants took to the hills for a full day of excellent skiing and a stop only for lunch, again provided by our generous donors.

Free Lecture - What You Do in Bed Affects Your heart!!

Thank you to all that attended the free lecture by Dr. Peter Lin on November 18, 2008. The lecture featured a candid look at the relationship between heart disease and sleep disturbances, snoring, plaque build up in the arteries, fibromyalgia, depression & sleep apnea.

2008 GTA Walk of Life

This year's 24th Walk of Life was held at the Queen Elizabeth Building, Exhibition Place on Sunday, April 27th, 2008 and was our most successful yet. We were pleased to welcome our partner programs the Cardiac Fitness Association (Breslau, Ontario), Toronto Rehab, Toronto Western Hospital, and Women's College and Health Initiative. The fabulous event was hosted by CityTV's Jennifer Valentyne and George Jonescu, host of AM740's Big Band Sunday Night. Over 1,050 participants took part in the 3 km, 5 km, and 7 km walk along the Martin Goodman Trail. It was not just a walk, but a family fun day filled with interactive exhibits, entertainment, food court, KidSport fun zone, Teletoon Area courtesy of Rogers, prizes and more. To top it off, we raised close to $400,000 for cardiac rehabilitation more ...

On November 26th 2007 we were pleased to have Dr. Bruce Kidd as our lecture speaker. Dr.Kidd who is Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education & Health at the University of Toronto spoke on the time subject: Crisis of Physical Inactivity and How To Overcome It. An appreciative audience benefited greatly from Dr. Kidd’s message which was followed by an interactive question and answer period.
